move thing, iLAND & Los Jardines Institute, Albuquerque 2025.

move thing is an encounter with Albuquerque’s youth, farmers, plants, and other beings growing in an about the huerta of Los Jardines Institute and along the Río Grande.

Each time, we’ve created zines that gather scores, drawings, sentipensamientos, sounds, and dreams from our days spent together. They serve as an introduction to our dance practices and an invitation to move with us, to listen to the stories of the huerta, and to attune to the cycles of the earth: 2024, 2025, 2026.

We returned this summer 2026, joining Richard Moore’s 80s birthday, co-convener of the First National People of Color Environmental Leadership Summit, Washington, D.C., 1991. Together with community-academic organizer and Voces Feministas radio host Sofia Martinez (turning 64th), Moore co-founded the Institute to address decades of racist uranium and coal mining contamination in the South Valley and its river. Elders and activists, musicians and healers from the four corners of the country gathered to honor them and celebrate the environmental justice movement. We’re grateful for all the kind souls raising a ruckus at Los Jardines and beyond.
